We are the store "Where FRIENDS Send FRIENDS”...Since 1979!
The Green family is a flooring business institution in Brevard County!
It all started when Nelson graduated from Satellite High and then the University of Florida with a degree in advertising and marketing. He left Brevard (his home) to take a job in Lancaster, Penn., where he got his first taste of the flooring business with Armstrong’s flooring division. As he gained experience, he became Sales Promotion Manager for Bigelow Carpet and Director of Marketing Services for Trend Carpet.
Working on the advertising and marketing side of the flooring business gave Nelson enough knowledge about the industry to return to his roots in Melbourne and open a flooring business of his own in 1979. Working with his brother, Ken (still with the company today), they started Great Southeast Carpet Gallery whose grand opening weekend coincided with the arrival of Hurricane David.
This timing actually worked to the store’s advantage. A radio station noticed the Green brothers storm-prepping the property and did an on-air interview: some valuable, no-cost publicity. After the storm, homeowners who experienced flood damage patronized the store for new floors.
In 1980, Nelson and Karen married. They had met at Trend Carpet where Karen worked in carpet design. Karen went on to help the business immensely with her ideas for improving the customer experience. The two often graced the TV airwaves in imaginative, funny (and sometimes campy) commercials. Their children eventually got into the act, too, appearing in a variety of promotions as they were growing up.
Today, the Greens’ sons have leadership roles in the business. Chris Green runs daily operations as general manager and Zach Green is the store’s sales manager.
This family knows flooring … and customer service. Be sure to come out and say hello to the Greens while checking out our 17,000 flooring options and guaranteed low prices.
