Supporting the Community: Flooring America’s Philanthropic Work

Nelson Green, the owner of Great Southeast Flooring America in Melbourne, epitomizes his community-oriented mindset through his ongoing involvement in charitable activities in Brevard County.

Investing in education

One of Green’s most cherished community projects is the Flooring America Scholarship Program. Since 2017, this program has been awarding $1,000 scholarships to college-bound seniors in Brevard County schools. In 2025, those awards will have totaled $112,000. Students at all 16 Brevard County schools are eligible. Each winner is selected by the individual school based on merit.

“We’ve so enjoyed meeting the bright students who receive these scholarships,” Green said. “They’re the leaders of tomorrow in Brevard and it’s such a privilege to help them in their respective journeys.”

Additional community engagement

Recognizing the issue of weekend hunger among Brevard County school children, Flooring America contributes to the Children's Hunger Project by donating $25 for each sale.

Through these donations, the project provides meals for children over weekends, addressing a crucial gap in nutrition support. Since 2019, the store has contributed $50,000 to the cause.

Beyond scholarships and hunger relief, Great Southeast Flooring America extends its support to various community initiatives. These include becoming a primary donor to the Brevard Zoo’s Port Canaveral Aquarium Project, Rockledge Rotary’s Derby Days (a Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser for area charities), high school sports, cultural events and various other causes.

Recognitions

Green’s commitment to community support has not gone unnoticed. Recently, Great Southeast Flooring America was honored as “Business of the Year” by Florida Today, a testament to its significant contributions and dedication to serving the community. The company has also been chosen “Best Flooring Store & Best Flooring Installation” every year since 2013 in Florida Today’s Community’s Choice Awards.

“We appreciate that,” Green said. “It’s a high honor to serve the community that’s patronized our business and made it grow so steadily over the years.”
