Flooring America scholarships to total $61,000 for college-bound seniors
Program provides 16 $1,000 scholarships to Brevard public high school seniors to help defray costs of higher education
Brevard County, Florida (Month xx, 2022) – Now in its sixth year, the Great Southeast Flooring America College Scholarship Program will again be giving away $1,000 awards to graduating seniors at Brevard Public Schools. Once the students receive this year’s scholarships, the total awarded to date will be $61,000.
Graduating seniors from each of the 16 Brevard Public Schools high schools are eligible for the award if they plan to attend college or university next year. Flooring America will present the scholarships in April and May during end-of-school-year award ceremonies.
“We get a lot of enjoyment helping Brevard County students as they get ready for higher education,” said Nelson Green, owner of Great Southeast Flooring America. “I get to meet these graduates every year and it’s always encouraging to see such outstanding young people preparing to take on a new challenge. It’s important to us that we help them along the way.”
To be eligible, a senior must complete an application, write a 500-word essay on how he or she will use the money, and be recommended for the award by a teacher or guidance counselor. All students must show a high degree of integrity, citizenship, achievement, sportsmanship and leadership.
Dr. Mark Mullins, Superintendent, Brevard Public Schools, said that Flooring America’s support of area students is a way of supporting the community at large.
“Endeavors such as the Flooring America scholarship program do more than just help out the students,” he said. “It’s a way to help prepare the next generation of our community professionals and leaders. We appreciate that effort very much.”
